PDF Blueprint / Floorplan Import Settings Overview in MeasureSquare 8

This article provides an overview of the settings available when importing a blueprint or floorplan PDF into MeasureSquare 8. Use it to understand each option in the Select Images to Import dialog and the Image Preview window, so you can bring plans in at the right size, color, naming, and scale.

Select Images to Import Settings

When you import a PDF blueprint or floorplan, the Select Images to Import dialog opens. Review the settings below before importing.

  1. Image Size – Sets the pixel size the pages are rendered at (default 12000).
Tip: Larger images can look clearer, but they use more memory and are more prone to failures during save, load, and display. Choose the image size wisely.
  2. Color Format – Choose how the pages are rendered: Grayscale, Monochrome, or Color
Tip: Monochrome is recommended, as it usually takes the least space and time. If Monochrome doesn't work well, try Grayscale. Color images take more space and time to process.
  3. PDF Page Naming – Controls how each imported page is named. Options are Index, Label, Bookmark, Label or Bookmark, and Bookmark or Label.
Note: This lets you use a PDF page's label or bookmark (if any) as the plan image name.
  4. Show Thumbnail – When checked, displays a preview thumbnail of each page in the list so you can identify pages before importing.
  5. Page selection – In the file list, check the pages you want to import and uncheck any pages you want to skip.
  6. Read PDF Text (beta) – Extracts the text content from each PDF page.
  7. Read PDF Path (beta) – Extracts path content from each PDF page, used for alignments.
Tip: Toggle this off to improve performance.

When your settings are ready, click OK.

Image Preview and Blueprint Scale

After clicking OK, the Image Preview window opens, where you set the scale and confirm which pages to import.

  1. Blueprint Scale – Select the correct scale for the plan from the dropdown at the top left. To add a custom scale, scroll to the bottom of the dropdown and select <Manage List>.
  2. Detect Scale (beta) – Automatically detects the scale based on the extracted PDF text.

Importing the Pages

Once the scale is set and your pages are selected, choose how to bring them in:

  • Import to Current Tab – Imports the selected pages into the tab you are currently working in.
  • Import to New Tab(s) – Imports the selected pages into new tab(s).
