How to Use the Draw Countertop Tool in MeasureSquare Stone

In this article, we will walk you through the Draw Countertop tool in MeasureSquare Stone.

This tool is designed specifically for drawing countertop surfaces during area takeoff. It allows you to quickly sketch countertop shapes — such as kitchen islands, L-shaped counters, and bathroom vanities — directly on your takeoff with accurate dimensions.

Unlike the general Draw Area and Rect Area tools, the Draw Countertop tool is optimized for the types of shapes and dimensions common in stone countertop work, making it faster and more intuitive for stone fabricators and estimators.

Accessing the Draw Countertop Tool

Step 1: Open your project in MeasureSquare Stone. Click the Draw Countertop button.

You will see a dropdown with two options:
  • Drag to Draw — Freehand draw a countertop shape directly on the canvas by clicking and dragging.
  • Show Templates Panel — Open a panel of pre-built countertop templates for common shapes (L-shapes, U-shapes, etc.).

  • Drag to Draw

The Drag to Draw method lets you create countertop shapes point by point directly on the canvas.

Step 2: Enable Drag to Draw from the Draw Countertop dropdown.

Step 3: Click on the takeoff to place your first corner point while holding the left mouse button. Continue clicking to place additional points, defining the outline of your countertop shape.  To close the shape, release the left mouse button

InfoYou can draw complex countertop shapes such as L-shapes and U-shapes in a single continuous outline — there is no need to draw each section separately. Just keep clicking to define each corner of the shape.

    Show Templates Panel

Instead of drawing from scratch, you can use pre-built countertop templates to quickly place common shapes on the takeoff.

Step 1: Click Show Templates Panel from the Draw Countertop dropdown. The Templates panel will open on the left side of the screen.

Step 2: The panel displays a Countertops category with the following templates. Click on a template to place it on the takeoff. You can then resize and adjust it afterwards.

    • L Shape Kitchen Top
    • U Shape Kitchen Top
    • Waterfall Island

    Property View

When you select a countertop area on the takeoff, the Property View panel on the right side of the screen displays the properties for that specific area.

Click on a countertop area to select it. The Property View panel will display the following fields:

    • Name — The auto-assigned label for the countertop area (e.g., C2).
    • Length — The length of the countertop (e.g., 8'0").
    • Width — The width of the countertop (e.g., 2'2").
    • Thickness — The stone thickness (e.g., 1-1/4").
    • Vein Matching — Check this box to enable vein matching for the countertop area during slab layout.
    • Height in 3D — The height of the countertop as displayed in 3D view (e.g., 0").
    • Tag1–Tag4 — Optional tag fields for categorizing or labeling the countertop area using custom tags.
    • Duplication — The number of duplications for this area (e.g., 1).
    • Photos — Click View to see or attach reference photos for the countertop area.
