How to Use the Cutout Tool in MeasureSquare Stone
In this article, we will walk you through the Cutout tool in MeasureSquare Stone. The Cutout tool creates openings in a countertop area for sinks, faucets, cooktops, and other fixtures. The cutout is subtracted from the countertop's total area, keeping your material calculations accurate.
Step 1: Select a countertop area on the takeoff.
Step 2: Click the main Cutout button directly (not the dropdown arrow). This activates a freeform cutout mode — click point by point on the countertop to draw a custom cutout shape.
After placing the cutout, it will appear as a white opening on the countertop with its dimensions displayed. You can click and drag to reposition it.
Step 3: Alternatively, click the dropdown arrow next to the Cutout button to choose from four preset cutout types (see below)

Types of Cutouts
- Rect Cutout by Size — Creates a rectangular cutout by entering a specific Width (e.g., 1'0"), Length (e.g., 1'2"), and Corner Radius (e.g., 1/2") for rounded corners.
- A preview diagram of the cutout shape is shown in the dialog before you click Add to place it.
- Circle Cutout by Radius — Creates a circular cutout by entering a Radius value (e.g., 9").
- Ellipse Cutout by Size — Creates an oval-shaped cutout by entering a Major Axis (e.g., 3'2") and Minor Axis (e.g., 1'6") value.
- Set Cutout Position — Positions an existing cutout at an exact location on the countertop. After selecting a cutout, this tool displays offset distances from the countertop edges (shown in green), allowing you to precisely place the cutout by specifying the exact distance from each edge
After placing a cutout, you can adjust its size and position in the Property View panel on the right side of the screen
