How to Use Draw Area and Rectangle Area in MeasureSquare Stone

This article explains how to use the Draw Area and Rect Area tools in MeasureSquare Stone. These tools allow you to trace and define takeoff areas on your floorplan so the software can calculate material quantities accurately.

Draw Area vs. Rect Area
  • Draw Area — Use this tool to manually trace an irregular or custom-shaped area by clicking point by point along the perimeter of the space.
  • Rect Area — Use this tool to quickly define a rectangular area by clicking and dragging, ideal for simple square or rectangular spaces.

Steps to Use Draw Area

  1. Under the Area Takeoff tab, select Draw Area
  2. Click on the floorplan to trace the perimeter of the area, placing one point at each corner. At the last corner, right-click to automatically close and complete the area. MeasureSquare Stone will calculate the square footage instantly.

Steps to Use Rect Area

  1. Under the Area Takeoff tab, select Rect Area
  2. Click and hold on one corner of the rectangular space on the floorplan. Drag to the opposite corner and release the mouse to complete the rectangle.

Understanding the Property View

After drawing an area, click on it to open the Property View panel on the right side of the screen. This panel displays detailed information about the selected area and allows you to edit its properties:

  • Name — The label assigned to the area (e.g., C1). You can rename it here.
  • Length — The measured length of the area, calculated automatically from your drawing.
  • Width — The measured width of the area, calculated automatically from your drawing.
  • Thickness — The material thickness. Enter a value if required for your product.
  • Vein Matching — Check this box to enable vein matching for stone slabs across the area.
  • Height in 3D — Sets the height of the area when viewed in 3D mode.
  • Tag 1–4 — Optional custom label fields for organizing or categorizing areas.
  • Duplication — Indicates how many times this area is duplicated in the project (e.g., 16 units on a multi-unit project).
  • Photos — Click View to attach or review reference photos associated with this area.
InfoTip: The Duplication field is especially useful on multi-unit projects. Setting a duplication count automatically multiplies the material quantities across all identical units without redrawing each one.
