How to translate and update your own print template [Report] to a different language for MeasureSquare 8

This article applies to version 7870 & newer. (As of October 1st 2020, this feature is only in beta mode)
Preconditions
  1. The Measure Square ID must be the group Admin on the Measure Square Cloud if you with to share to others. Contact support if you do not know.
  2. Sign into MeasureSquare 8 (using the build noted above) with the above ID.
  3. Install 7-zip https://www.7-zip.org/
  4. Install Notepad++ https://notepad-plus-plus.org/
    1. Run Notepad++, from the menu bar select "plugins"
    2. Select "Plugins Admin"
    3. Search and select "XML Tools and install.
Steps to edit and update incorrect translations

Step 1: Find the default print template file; Open a File Explorer, in the Navigation Bar input %appdata%\Measure Square\M2_Win\UserData, press enter, open the subfolder "your m2id"\Profiles\Print Template



Step 2: Unzip the default print template; Find the file ea26e331-7779-41d6-aa16-c0f8ee76a811.m2ptl and open it with 7-zip (right click on file to find option to open in 7-zip), drag the file _serialized_content.xml to your desktop.



Step 3: Edit the print template; Open the _serialized_content.xml with NotePad++, find and locate the text m_lang_de, (example of text change) change the value of Est_Tile from "Zusammenfassung" to "Germany Summary",  save the file. Open the  ea26e331-7779-41d6-aa16-c0f8ee76a811.m2ptl in the above step with 7-zip again (make sure close other 7-zip window), drag the  _serialized_content.xml on your desktop into the 7-zip to update the zip file.

IMPORTANT: Step 3 is how you will search and replace any words that google translate did incorrectly. Once we upload this into MeasureSquare 8, you will see the template in your desired language and as you find mistakes, you will repeat the steps above to fix them manually.



Example of values and notes on editing in editor

1. Some string are predefined values, for example:

GroutWidth_Metric 0 MM;2 MM;3 MM;4 MM;6 MM;8 MM;10 MM;12 MM
ProdCtrl_TileMinCalcWaste_Pres  0%;5%;6%;7%;8%;9%;10%;11%;12%;13%;14%;15%

these values are usually separated by semicolon ";", they don't need to be translated,

please just leave them empty.

2. There are some placeholders in the string like {0} {1}, these strings will be used to format with values. for example:

PDBTreeCM_Replicate_ProductPathNumber Replicate {0} products and {1} paths.

Say there are 20 products and 3 paths will be replicated, the placeholders {0} {1} will be replaced with 20 and 3,

The final string shown to the user will be: Replicate 20 products and 3 paths. 

please always keep the placeholders, if any of them is deleted, the program may crash.

3. There are some abbreviations in English, for example:

ProdCtrl_MarkupMargin UP:{0} MG:{1}

here UP stands for Markup, and MG stands for Margin. If you don't know where these strings will be shown and what they mean,

please leave them empty (delete the auto-translations), collect their key and text, and send them to your M2 developer contact, so they may come up with a list of explanations.


Step 4: Test the results; Run MeasureSquare 8, open a project, go to Print, make sure to select the "default" profile, and the "Summary" under Options is checked, set the language to Germany as our working example (Deutsch), press OK. If everything goes correctly, you will be able to see the "Zusammenfassung" is replaced by " Germany Summary ", with other text in Germany normally.




Now, we need to upload this profile to the cloud to be used on a regular basis and to be shared to others on your team (if needed).

Step 1: Share the new print template to the cloud: We have just modified the default print template on the fly, this file will be replaced by a newer version in the Cloud.
To keep this modification from changing back and to share it with others, we need to change the name of the print template and then upload it to the Cloud.

Copy the file ea26e331-7779-41d6-aa16-c0f8ee76a811.m2ptl to your desktop and then rename it to "myPrint.m2plt". Open myPrint.m2plt with 7-zip, in 7-zip, delete the Cloud folder which contains the meta information we don't need.

Step 2: login m2cloud. https://cloud.measuresquare.com/
You can either upload to "Group Profile" to share with others, or upload to "Profiles" to only share with your own ID.



Step 3: After the print template is uploaded, restart MeasureSquare 8, the "MyPrint" print profile will appear in your print options window.
