How to replace all of one product with a different product in MeasureSquare 8?

Method 1: Use the Replace command

1. Open the Replace option

In the Project Items list at the bottom of the Product/Service panel, right-click the product you want to replace (1). From the menu, choose Replace (2).

2. Choose the scope and target product

The Replace Product window opens with your selected product shown as the Original Product. Under Scope, choose where the replacement should apply:

  • Whole Project replaces the product everywhere in the project.
  • Current Tab replaces it only on the tab you're working in.
  • Selection replaces it only in areas you've already selected on the drawing.

Next, click the Target Product drop-down and choose the product you want to use instead. You can pick from your existing Project Items, Patterns, or the Product/Services database. If the product doesn't exist yet, click the + button to add it.

3. Confirm the replacement

With the target product selected (in this example, CAR 12'0" (6" x 6") SY replacing SV 6'6" SY), click OK.

The areas update to the new product, and the usage figures in Project Items recalculate automatically.

Method 2: Select the areas and drag the new product onto them

Use this method when you want to reassign a specific group of areas, or when you want to see exactly which areas are changing before you commit.

1. Select the areas that use the original product

On the drawing canvas, select all of the areas currently assigned to the product you want to replace. One way to do this is to right-click the product in Project Items and choose Select Rooms Applied. The status bar at the bottom right confirms how many areas are selected (highlighted), along with their total area and perimeter (for example, Selected: 5 Area: 517.14 SF).

2. Drag the new product onto the selection

In Project Items, click the product you want to use and drag it onto one of the selected areas. The selected areas highlight while you drag, and the status bar reads "Drop to assign the product to an area." Release the mouse button to apply the product. To cancel, right-click before releasing.

3. Review the result

All selected areas now use the new product. In Project Items, the original product no longer shows usage, and the new product's usage increases to include the reassigned areas. In this example, SV 6'6" SY went from 412.78 SY to 479.50 SY, and CAR 12'0" (6" x 6") SY shows no usage.
