How to Lock or Unlock Rooms in the Takeoff in MeasureSquare 8

This article will guide you through locking and unlocking rooms in a takeoff in MeasureSquare 8. Locking a room freezes it in place so it cannot be moved accidentally while you work on other parts of the drawing. You can unlock the room at any time to move it again.

Notes

Why Lock Rooms

When working in a takeoff, it is easy to accidentally drag a room out of position — for example, while clicking around the drawing, selecting products, or adding markups. If your rooms are traced over an imported floor plan, even a small unintended move can throw off their alignment and lead to inaccurate measurements. Locking the rooms keeps them fixed in place while you continue working. You can unlock them at any time when you need to reposition a room.

Steps to Lock or Unlock Rooms

Step 1: Locate the Room Button

  • Go to the Takeoff tab.
  • On the far right of the ribbon, find the Shape Edit group. The Room button is in the top row of this group, next to Seam Button

Step 2: Click Room Button to Lock or Unlock

  • Click Room Button to lock all rooms in the takeoff. No selection is needed — the setting applies to every room.
  • Click Room Button again to unlock them.

Note: Locked rooms cannot be moved. All other functions remain available.
