Steps to Create a Return on a Waterfall Edge
Step 1: Draw the countertop area
Start by sketching the countertop outline and include all applicable splash and laminate edges, except for one side of the waterfall. This laminate edge will be created in the following steps.
Example: Building an island with a single waterfall.
---
Step 2: Split the laminate for the return
Select the laminate edge closest to where you want the return and split it using Split by Distance, then choose Splash&Lam.
Pro Tip: Use a dimension that differs from the system default laminate size for ease of identifying which edge to change (e.g., if the system setting is 1” laminate, use 1.5”).
---
Step 3: Set the waterfall height
Resize the smaller portion of the split laminate to match the countertop height (typically 34”).
---
Step 4: Add a second laminate layer
From the Laminate drop-down menu, choose 2nd Layer Laminate and place this new piece toward the countertop side (NOT the waterfall side).
---
Step 5: Align the edges
Drag the new laminate so its edge meets the border of the first laminate. This avoids overlaps and ensures correct fabrication sizing.
---
Step 6: Adjust waterfall depth
Resize the second layer laminate to the desired return depth.
---
Step 7: Apply the product
Assign your selected countertop product to all pieces.
---
Step 8: Check in 3D
Switch to 3D view to confirm alignment, sizing, and finishes look correct.
