How to Create a Bulkhead / Header / Soffit in MeasureSquare 8

This article explains how to create a bulkhead (also called a header or soffit) in MeasureSquare 8. A bulkhead is a dropped section of the ceiling. Use this feature when you need to model a lowered ceiling area for accurate takeoff and visualization.

Steps to Create a Bulkhead / Header / Soffit

Step 1: Create a Ceiling for the Room

  • Right-click inside the room you want to work on.
  • In the context menu, hover over Room Edit.
  • Select Create Ceiling.

Step 2: Open the Wall View

  • Open the Wall section view by clicking View Wall .
  • The room unfolds to show each wall and a Top View of the ceiling on the right.

Step 3: Draw the Dropdown Section on the Ceiling

  • On the Takeoff ribbon, select the Elevation tool.
  • In the Top View of the ceiling, draw the section where the bulkhead / header / soffit should go.

Step 4: Set the Bulkhead Drop Height

  • Select the elevation you just drew.
  • In the Property View panel, find the Elevation section.
  • Enter the desired value in the Wall Height field.
Notes
A common use is in a shower: tile often runs only partway up the wall, and a dropped header is built above it to enclose the top of the shower. In the 3D view below, the green band across the top of the shower is the bulkhead. Modeling it lets you account for the header tile and trim separately from the main shower walls.
