How to Change Default Settings (Tab, Room, Door, Window, Stair, Elevation) for Takeoff Elements in MeasureSquare 8
This article will guide you through changing the default settings for takeoff elements in MeasureSquare 8, including Tab, Room, Door, Window, Stair, Elevation, and Snap to Measurement. Adjusting these settings allows you to define default dimensions and properties that will be automatically applied when drawing elements during takeoff.
Steps to Change Default Takeoff Element Settings
Step 1: Open System Settings
- In MeasureSquare 8, click the Settings icon (gear icon) located in the top toolbar.
- The System Setting window will open.

Step 2: Navigate to the Takeoff Tab
- In the System Setting window, click the Takeoff tab.
Step 3: Adjust the Default Settings
The Takeoff tab is organized into the following sections. Update the values as needed:
Tab
- Name, Width, Height
- Option: Auto Order Tabs Alphanumerically, Tabs With Current Phase First
Room
- Name Prefix, Wall Height, Wall Thickness
Door
- Width, Height, Style (e.g., NoLeaf)
- Options: Open Left, Open In, Ignore Door Area
Window
- Width, Height, Altitude
- Option: Ignore Window Area
Stair
- Width, Tread Width, Riser Height, Step Count, Steps Per Break
Elevation
Snap to Measurement
- Snap to value: Set the minimum snapping distance (in inches) when drawing elements. When the cursor is within this distance of an existing measurement point or line, it will automatically snap to that position for more precise alignment.
- Option: Snap to Measurement on Image: When enabled, the cursor will snap to measurement points directly on the imported blueprint image, helping ensure your drawings align accurately with the plan.
Step 4: Save Your Changes
- Click Save to apply your changes.
- To restore all settings to factory defaults, click Reset All at the top of the Takeoff tab.
